    Dirk Kuyt says he feels more like a Liverpudlian than a Dutchman – because even his kids speak with a Scouse accent.

    Kuyt immersed himself in Merseyside life from the -moment he moved to -Liverpool from Feyenoord in a ￡10million deal three-and-a-half-years ago.

    While many foreign -players head for the -cosmopolitan shopping streets of Manchester or the leafy lanes of Cheshire, the 29-year-old has ensconced himself in a Liverpool -suburb.

    A friend still brings Dutch delicacies over from -Holland, but the Kuyt family enjoy nothing better than a trip to the local fish and chip shop.

    Kuyt has become something of a cult hero with the Kop – and no wonder when he says: “When I moved to England with my family we tried to keep Dutch as our main language in the house. But that has been -impossible.

    “When we go on -holiday she has to speak in a proper -English accent so -people can understand her. It cracks me up, it is so funny. I must admit that I have become a bit of a Scouser too. I keep noticing I think in English, I count in English.

    Kuyt, whose two goals in midweek against -Tottenham revived -Liverpool’s season, will lead -Holland’s attack at the World Cup next -summer. He added: “My food tastes are still very Dutch and my friend Willem brings me my favourite things over from my home village every week.

    Kuyt believes it is the city’s -togetherness that has enabled Liverpool to emerge from the crisis that threatened to wreck their season.

    Kuyt said: “The fans at -Liverpool illustrate what the club is about. I’ve been to a few clubs and in the bad times you get nothing but flak.
